Underskin
A downloadable game
Dario works in a warehouse. He has a shift, a quota, and a voice in his head that sounds a lot like his supervisor.
UNDERSKIN is a psychological horror roguelike that happens under a man's skin. Every floor you go down is a deeper layer of what the work did to him. The enemies aren't monsters: they're the whisper, the judgement, the interruption, the letter from management that has teeth.
WHAT'S IN IT
Ten floors, each one a different kind of pressure — the warehouse, the mirror floor that shows you deformed reflections of every enemy you met this run, the waiting room full of children asking questions you can't answer.
Items that transform you. Some make you stronger. Some just make you someone else.
A run is short. What you carry between runs isn't. Every death leaves something in the next attempt.
WHERE IT IS RIGHT NOW
In development, made by one person, out in the open. The Kickstarter campaign goes live on October 1st — there's a prelaunch page where you can ask to be notified. I'll post devlogs here, including the parts that don't work.
ABOUT THE ART
The sprites are generated with AI and then repaired by hand, frame by frame — every walk cycle, every wound, every broken pixel. I'd rather tell you here than have you find out in a comment. The music in the trailer is built entirely out of sounds that are already inside the game: pipes, a heartbeat that skips, a voice played backwards.
A WARNING, HONESTLY
It's a game about work, debt, medication and the things people don't say out loud. If that's too close to home, it will be too close.
